§1003 Obligation to Make Royalty Payments

Summary

If you import or make and sell digital audio recording devices or media, you must record the notice required by law and send in account statements and the royalty payments required under section 1004. You cannot import, make, or sell those products without doing this. If you bring a new product type or technology you have not told the Register of Copyrights about before, you must file a notice with the Register. You must also file quarterly and annual account reports with the Register in the form it requires. A company officer or principal must certify each report as true. The Register will make rules for checking and auditing the reports and keeping them confidential, and may share them confidentially with copyright holders. Each report must include the royalty payments called for in section 1004.
