An official who is allowed to give oaths or certify statements will be punished if they knowingly lie when saying someone appeared before them or took an oath about any proposal, contract, bond, or other matter involving the United States or a federal agency when an oath is required. It also covers false statements about the money or financial standing of anyone involved. The punishment can be a federal fine, up to two years in jail, or both.
