Defines key terms used in this chapter. Gambling ship is a vessel used mainly to run one or more gambling places. It does not include a vessel with gambling happening past U.S. territorial waters during a covered voyage (see section 4472 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 as in effect on January 1, 1994). Gambling establishment is any place that accepts bets or runs games of chance for money or other value. Vessel is any craft or floating structure used on water or on water and in the air. American vessel is one documented or numbered under U.S. law, and also covers boats not registered anywhere if owned, chartered, or controlled by U.S. citizens, residents, or U.S. companies. Wire communication facility is any equipment, people, or services used to send or receive messages, pictures, or sounds by wire, cable, or similar connections.
