Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 65— MALICIOUS MISCHIEF › § 1362
Makes it a crime to purposely damage, destroy, or interfere with communication equipment or systems that the U.S. runs or that are used or meant to be used for military or civil defense. That includes things like radios, telegraphs, telephones, cables, lines, stations, or any other way of sending messages, and it covers attempts or plans to do those things. The punishment can be a fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both. If the equipment is not run by the U.S., lawful strikes or other legal group bargaining or mutual-aid actions are not covered, as long as they do not damage lines used for military or civil defense.
