Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 77— PEONAGE, SLAVERY, AND TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS › § 1581
It is a crime to force someone into peonage (forced labor), to return someone to it, or to arrest someone to put them into it. The punishment is a fine, up to 20 years in prison, or both. If the act causes death or includes kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse (or its attempt), or an attempt to kill, the punishment is any term of years or life in prison, or both, and a fine. Anyone who blocks, tries to block, or interferes with enforcing this rule gets the same penalties.
