Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 96— RACKETEER INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS › § 1965
Allows civil lawsuits under this chapter to be started in any federal district where the person lives, can be found, has an agent, or does business. If a court handling a case under section 1964 needs people from other districts, the court can order them to appear and have the U.S. marshal serve the paperwork anywhere in the country. When the United States brings a case, subpoenas for witnesses can be served in other districts. In civil cases, a subpoena cannot be served on someone who lives more than 100 miles from the court without a judge’s approval for good cause. Other court papers may be served where the person lives, is found, has an agent, or does business.
