Entering or trespassing on a railroad train, railroad car, or locomotive in any U.S. territory, federal district, or place under U.S. control on purpose and with bad intent to commit murder or robbery can lead to a federal fine, up to 20 years in prison, or both. If the person goes onto a train intending to hurt passengers, crew members, express messengers, mail agents, or to commit any other crime against people or property there, the penalty is a federal fine, up to one year in prison, or both. At trial, prosecutors do not have to show a specific person was the intended victim.
