Makes it a crime to steal or try to steal drugs from another person by force, threat, or intimidation, or to break into or stay in a business registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration to steal drugs. If the replacement cost to the registrant is $500 or more, or the person crossed state lines or used interstate travel or communications to do it, or someone was killed or suffered serious injury because of the act, the offender can be fined and face up to 20 years in prison. If a dangerous weapon or device is used and someone is assaulted or put in danger of death, the prison term can be up to 25 years. If someone is killed during the crime, the offender can be fined and punished for any number of years or for life. If two or more people plan the crime and one of them takes a step to carry it out, each can be fined and face up to 10 years in prison. Controlled substance — the drugs defined in the Controlled Substances Act. Business premises or property — includes vehicles and storage facilities. Significant bodily injury — an injury that risks death, causes severe pain, long-term obvious disfigurement, or long-term loss or impairment of a body part, organ, or mental or sensory ability.
