People who work on a merchant ship — like the captain, officers, radio operator, seamen, or apprentices — must not, on purpose, through neglect, or because of drunkenness, do anything that could immediately destroy or badly damage the ship or put people on board in immediate danger. If they do, or if they refuse or fail to do required acts to prevent such harm, they can be jailed for up to one year.
