Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 115— TREASON, SEDITION, AND SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES › § 2385
It makes it a crime for people who on purpose support, help, advise, or teach that the U.S. government, or any state, territory, district, possession, or local government, should be overthrown or destroyed by force, violence, or by killing officials. It also covers printing, publishing, selling, or showing written material that promotes that goal with the intent to cause it, organizing or trying to organize groups that teach or encourage that goal, or joining such a group when you know what it wants. Those convicted can be fined under federal law, imprisoned for not more than twenty years, or both, and cannot work for the U.S. government or its agencies for five years after conviction. If two or more people conspire to do these things, each faces the same penalties. "Organize" means recruiting members, forming new units, or regrouping or expanding existing clubs or classes.
