Title 18 › PART II — CRIMINAL PROCEDURE › CHAPTER 201 — GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 3008

Summary

Tells how people must give copies of filings and court orders and how to send papers to the court. Parties must give copies of any paper they file to the other parties in the ways the rule allows. The court clerk usually must send copies of orders to the parties unless another rule says not to. Every paper filed must say how and when the other parties got it. The court can let or require people to file and serve papers online. If papers are filed or served through the court’s electronic system, the filing or service counts when the system records it. If papers are sent by regular mail, add 3 days to the time allowed for a response. Key words used: "clerk" — the court employee who files and sends papers; "registered user" — someone with an account for the court’s electronic filing system; "electronic filing system" — the court’s online filing service.
