Summary

A 1968 law changed the name used in the statute from "Commissioners" to "magistrates." A later law updated that name again to "U.S. magistrate judges." The 1968 change became effective on October 17, 1968, unless a later date applied — the earlier of when the new magistrates were appointed and started work, or the third anniversary of October 17, 1968.
