Title 18 › PART II — CRIMINAL PROCEDURE › CHAPTER 221 — ARRAIGNMENT, PLEAS AND TRIAL › § 3443
The judge must tell the jury the legal rules to use when deciding the case. Lawyers may give the judge written requests for specific instructions and must provide copies to the judge and the other lawyers. If a lawyer thinks an instruction is wrong or one was left out, the lawyer must speak up on the record before the jury goes to deliberate and say exactly what they object to and why. If they do not object then, they generally cannot complain about it later.
