If someone is convicted of fraud or other intentional deceit, the court can also order them to give victims a reasonable notice and explanation of the conviction. The court picks the form of notice (for example mail, ads, or media). The judge must consider the factors in section 3553(a) that apply and the cost compared to the victims’ loss, and the defendant cannot be made to pay more than $20,000 for giving the notice.
