Title 18 › PART III — PRISONS AND PRISONERS › CHAPTER 301 — GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 4006
The Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security must pay only the real, reasonable living costs for prisoners held by U.S. marshals. They must make rules so marshals can figure those actual expenses. When the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, or the Department of Homeland Security pays for medical items or care for people in their custody, they pay the bill but never more than what Medicare (Title XVIII of the Social Security Act) would pay. Any such payment is the full and final payment.
