§47 Use of Aircraft or Motor Vehicles to Hunt Certain Wild Horses or Burros; Pollution of Watering Holes

Summary

Makes it a crime to use an aircraft or a motor vehicle to hunt, capture, or kill wild unbranded horses (including mares and colts) or burros that are running free on public lands or ranges. It is also illegal to pollute watering holes on those public lands or ranges to trap, wound, maim, or kill those animals. You can be fined under federal law, jailed for up to six months, or both. Aircraft = any flying machine. Motor vehicle = cars, trucks, wagons, motorcycles, or any self‑propelled land vehicle.
