It is illegal to put a customs seal, or something pretending to be one, on any ship, vehicle, warehouse, or package without permission. It is also illegal to willfully remove, break, damage, or spoil any customs seal or mark on things holding goods or baggage under customs control; to break into bonded places or loaded vessels/vehicles to steal those goods; or to knowingly receive or move goods that were taken from customs. The penalty can be a federal fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both.
