Stealing, hiding, or taking without the U.S. government's permission any tool, machine part, or material used to make or print government papers is illegal. This covers devices for stamping or printing, items used to make those devices, blank or partly printed paper, and any printed or stamped pieces that resemble government bonds, bills, notes, certificates, coupons, postage or revenue stamps, fractional currency, or other official documents — even if they were not meant to be put into use. A person who does this can be fined, jailed for up to ten years, or both.
