Title 18 › Part I— CRIMES › Chapter 31— EMBEZZLEMENT AND THEFT › § 668
Makes it a crime to steal or to trick a museum out of important items. It is also illegal to receive, hide, display, or sell an item that was taken from a museum, even if the person did not know it came from a museum. Museum = a permanent U.S. institution with an educational or art purpose, a professional staff, regular public exhibits, and activities affecting interstate or foreign commerce. Object of cultural heritage = either more than 100 years old and worth more than $5,000, or worth $100,000 or more.
