You must not knowingly buy or try to buy a gun across state lines or that involves international trade for someone else if you know or have good reason to believe that the other person is barred from owning guns under federal law, plans to use or sell the gun to help commit a felony, a federal terrorism crime, or a drug-trafficking crime, or plans to give or sell the gun to someone who is barred or will use it for those crimes. Definitions: drug trafficking crime — federal drug offenses and similar state felonies under federal drug laws; Federal crime of terrorism — the offense defined in federal terrorism law; felony — any crime punishable by more than 1 year in prison. Penalties: up to 15 years in prison and fines, or up to 25 years if done knowing the gun will be used in a felony, terrorism, or drug-trafficking crime.
