People must not knowingly show, sell, share, or use the National Film Registry seal to promote any copy or version of a film unless that film is actually on the Registry and the Librarian has approved that specific copy to use the seal. The seal can be used for a film only after the Librarian publishes the film’s name in the Federal Register as chosen for the Registry.
