Title 2 › CHAPTER 29 — CAPITOL POLICE › SUBCHAPTER I — ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION › Part A — General › § 1901a
Defines who is on the Capitol Police Board and requires the Board to oversee and support the Capitol Police and improve coordination with the House and Senate Sergeants at Arms. The Board must set general goals and make its work more efficient. The Board is made up of the Sergeant at Arms of the House, the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate, the Architect of the Capitol, and the Chief of the Capitol Police. The Chief is a non-voting, ex‑officio member. Within 180 days after February 20, 2003, the Board must review and rewrite its mission, check how well its legal duties help that mission, and send a report with any recommended laws to the Speaker and minority leader of the House and the President pro tempore and minority leader of the Senate. The Board must create an Executive Assistant position in the Capitol Police, to be appointed by the Chief after consulting the two Sergeants at Arms; that person reports to the Board chair and helps set up and run the Board’s processes. The Board must document its mission, policies, procedures, and meetings and share them with the listed congressional leaders, the Chief, and the Comptroller General. The Comptroller General will help if asked. Laws or resolutions in effect on February 20, 2003 that mention the “Capitol Police Board” refer to this membership, and nothing here changes the Board’s powers or members unless the text says so.
