Allows a Capitol Police officer to go outside the United States for official work when the officer is traveling with, or preparing for travel of, a Member of the House who holds a House Leadership Office, including when the Member is on a congressional delegation. The Sergeant at Arms of the House must approve the officer’s travel ahead of time. The Sergeant at Arms must pay back the Capitol Police for overtime, travel, and related costs from the funds for the Sergeant at Arms’ office. Those reimbursements go into the Capitol Police’s expense or salary accounts and can be used in that fiscal year and the next. House Leadership office: an office funded under the “House Leadership Offices” heading in the Legislative Branch appropriations. Member of the House of Representatives: includes a Delegate or Resident Commissioner. United States: includes the states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and possessions. Applies beginning with fiscal year 2017 and each year after.
