Title 2 › Chapter 9C— OFFICE OF PARLIAMENTARIAN OF HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES › § 287b
The Parliamentarian must hire the attorneys and other staff needed to run the office, with the Speaker’s approval or under rules the Speaker approves. Hires must not be chosen for their political party and must be picked only for their ability to do the job. The Parliamentarian can remove those employees with the Speaker’s approval or under the approved rules. One attorney must be named Deputy Parliamentarian. The Deputy steps in when the Parliamentarian is absent, disabled, or the job is vacant. The Parliamentarian can also give duties to the Deputy and to other staff as needed.
