Title 2 › Chapter 55— HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OFFICERS AND ADMINISTRATION › Subchapter I— GENERAL › § 5503
If a person is sued for something they did while serving as an officer of either House of Congress and carrying out an official order, the U.S. attorney for the district where the case is filed must appear for that officer if the officer asks. The rules in the eighth section of the Act of July 28, 1866 (and the older laws it cites) about moving cases, stopping enforcement, and paying judgments for federal officers apply to the suit and related steps, and the Attorney General will supervise and direct the defense.
