§5549 House Intern Resource Office

Summary

Creates the House Intern Resource Office inside the Chief Administrative Officer’s office. A House Intern Resource Coordinator will lead the office. The Coordinator is hired by the Chief Administrative Officer after talking with the chair and the ranking minority member of the Committee on House Administration. Working with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and others, the office must help interns with things like accommodations, training, and career development, serve as a resource for recruiting and supervising interns, and collect demographic and other data about House interns. The office must look at unfair barriers to internships and consider a stipend program for interns from underrepresented backgrounds, including students at HBCUs, Tribal Colleges and Universities, HSIs, and other Minority Serving Institutions described in section 1067q(a) of title 20. Money may be appropriated for fiscal year 2023 and each succeeding fiscal year as needed. The rules apply starting in fiscal year 2023 and every year after.
