Even if other laws say otherwise, from October 2, 1962, the House Sergeant at Arms must make arrangements for any officially appointed committee of Senators and Representatives to attend a deceased House member’s funeral. The House will pay from its accounts, under rules set by the Committee on House Oversight, whatever money is needed to cover the funeral and burial and the travel or attendance costs for that committee, the Sergeant at Arms (or a representative), and the deceased member’s spouse and/or minor children.
