Starting July 1, 1979, the Office of the Secretary of the Senate and the Office of the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper each may get up to $30,000 per fiscal year to repay actual expenses for orientation seminars and similar meetings held in the Capitol or Senate Office Buildings, including meals. The Secretary or the Sergeant at Arms must document and certify the costs, sign vouchers, and have the money paid from the Senate’s contingent fund. These repayments are not reportable as income and may not be deducted under title 26.
