Starting October 1, 1981, statutory jobs in the Office of the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate were ended, except for the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, the Deputy Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, and the Administrative Assistant. The Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper may create and fill new positions and set pay. No employee’s yearly pay can be higher than the Sergeant at Arms’ yearly pay minus $1,000. Jobs created by law and paid from the Senate’s contingent fund are not changed.
