§6622 Certification of Telecommunications Equipment and Services as Official

Summary

Gives the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate the power to declare telephone equipment and services official, bill users, and accept payments (including for repair or replacement) on a reimbursable basis, following rules set by the Committee on Rules and Administration. Telephone equipment and services that before October 1, 1987 were not paid from the Senate’s contingent fund will, starting October 1, 1987, be treated as reimbursable and eligible for payment from that fund under this authority. With the Committee’s approval, the Sergeant at Arms may set reasonable extra charges beyond what the Committee already allows. All money received for these telephone services, including payments from carriers for loss or damage, must be deposited into the Appropriation Account in the Senate’s contingent fund for "Contingent Expenses, Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate" under the Telecommunications line item and can be spent under the same rules as other money there. The Committee keeps the right to classify or reclassify which telephone items require reimbursement.
