Each fiscal year, up to $50,000 from the Senate's contingent fund can be used to pay the Chaplain's actual expenses for doing his job. The Chaplain must certify and document the costs, and vouchers must be approved by the Chaplain and by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. The money may be used to buy food or food-related items. If this rule is repealed, any money in the Chaplain Expense Revolving Fund must be sent to the general fund of the United States Treasury. This applies starting in fiscal year 2004 and every year after.
