The Secretary of Education must, directly or by grant or contract, collect, organize, store, study, and share information about careers in the United States. This work covers current job options, future job trends, and career education. The Secretary must keep analyzing trends using public and private sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Department of Commerce, the United States International Trade Commission, economic analysts, labor unions, and private industry, then publish reports and run seminars and workshops for educators and the public. As much as possible, the Secretary must use and coordinate existing offices, centers, clearinghouses, and research resources and use the Department of Education’s career information abilities.
