§3426 Liaison for Proprietary Institutions of Higher Education

Summary

The Department must have a Liaison for Proprietary Institutions of Higher Education. The Secretary must appoint that officer, and had to do so by no later than 6 months after October 7, 1998. The person must either have earned a certificate or degree from a proprietary (for‑profit) higher education institution or have worked at one for at least 5 years. The Liaison must be the Secretary’s main adviser on matters about proprietary institutions, give guidance to Department programs that affect those schools, and work with the Federal Interagency Committee on Education to better coordinate federal outreach and job‑training programs, business‑education partnerships, and education programs in rural areas.
