§3478 Facilities at Remote Locations

Summary

Lets the head of the Department provide, build, or keep services, supplies, and facilities for employees and their dependents at remote posts when those things are needed and not otherwise available. It covers seven types of support: emergency medical care and supplies; food and other subsistence; dining facilities; audiovisual equipment for recreation and training; reimbursement to employees who buy food, clothing, medicine, or other supplies in emergencies to help distressed people; living and working quarters; and transportation for employees’ dependents to the nearest suitable schools. Medical care and the food, dining, and audiovisual items must be charged at prices that reflect reasonable value as set by the head. Money paid back for these services can be put into the same fund that paid the costs or used to return excess sums when necessary.
