Title 20 › Chapter 49— ASBESTOS SCHOOL HAZARD DETECTION AND CONTROL › § 3603
States that get certain federal education funds must send a plan to the Secretary within six months after June 14, 1980. The plan must explain how, no later than nine months after June 14, 1980, the State will give local school districts information about the programs covered by the law, the health risks of asbestos fibers, the federal procedures for carrying out those programs, and other useful details. The plan must say what the information will include, promise to keep it up to date and resend updates, explain how the State will keep records on asbestos in school buildings (including detection, containment or removal work, any replacement materials, and repairs), and name a State agency that will be responsible for reporting to the Secretary. The named State agency must send a report to the Secretary within six months after the plan is sent, and then every six months during the two-year period that begins on June 14, 1980. Each report must describe what the State has done under its plan.
