Title 20 › Chapter 56— AMERICAN INDIAN, ALASKA NATIVE, AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN CULTURE AND ART DEVELOPMENT › § 4402
Defines key words used in the chapter. "Indian art and culture" and "Native Hawaiian art and culture" mean traditional and modern forms of language, history, visual and performing arts, and crafts. "Institute" means the Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development set up by this chapter. "Indian" means a person who is a member of an Indian tribe. "Indian tribe" means any tribe, band, nation, or organized Indian group recognized for special U.S. programs and services, and includes any Alaska Native village as defined in or established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (43 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.). "Native Hawaiian" means any descendant of someone who was native to the Hawaiian Islands before 1778. "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Interior, and "Board" means the Institute’s Board of Trustees.
