Title 20 › Chapter 70— STRENGTHENING AND IMPROVEMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS › Subchapter II— PREPARING, TRAINING, AND RECRUITING HIGH-QUALITY TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, OR OTHER SCHOOL LEADERS › Part B— National Activities › Subpart 5— recognizing achievement in classified school employees › § 6683
The Secretary of Education must create a national program called the Recognizing Inspiring School Employees Award Program to honor classified school employees who give outstanding service to students from prekindergarten through high school. Each year one classified school employee will be chosen before May 31, starting in the second calendar year after April 12, 2019. The award has no cash value. By November 1 each year, starting in the first calendar year after April 12, 2019, the Secretary will ask each Governor to submit nominations of classified school employees in the occupational groups listed in section 6682(1). Governors must consider nominations from local school districts, administrators, professional and labor groups, service agencies, nonprofits, parents, students, and other groups the Secretary allows. Each nomination must show excellence in work, school and community involvement, leadership and commitment, local support, and improving the employees’ image. The Secretary will make national rules for judging nominations and picking the winners.
