Title 20 › Chapter 70— STRENGTHENING AND IMPROVEMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS › Subchapter IV— 21ST CENTURY SCHOOLS › Part D— Magnet Schools Assistance › § 7231c
A local school district, or a group of districts, can get a grant to help desegregate schools if it meets one of two conditions. First, the district is carrying out a desegregation plan because a final order came from a U.S. or state court, or from a state agency or official with authority. Second, the district has voluntarily adopted, is carrying out, or will adopt and carry out if it gets the grant, a desegregation plan that the Secretary approves as adequate under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to end segregation of minority students or staff.
