Title 20 › Chapter 3— SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, NATIONAL MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES › Subchapter X— NATIONAL ARMED FORCES MUSEUM ADVISORY BOARD › § 80b
The Smithsonian Board of Regents must find land and buildings in or near Washington, D.C., that could hold military collections. After talking with the Commission on Fine Arts, the National Capital Planning Commission, and the General Services Administration, the Board must send Congress recommendations about which sites to buy. Buildings Congress approves must hold public exhibits and study collections that do not fit on the Mall. They must have room for large military objects and for recreated displays of fortifications, trenches, and other military and naval features from the colonial period, the Revolutionary War, and later U.S. operations.
