§80o Director, Officers, and Employees; Appointment, Compensation, and Duties

Summary

The Board may hire the Director and whatever other officers and staff are needed, and set their pay and duties, to run and maintain the Museum. The Director and two other Museum employees can be appointed and paid without following the title 5 rules for competitive service appointments or chapter 51 and subchapter III of chapter 53 of title 5. All Museum employees who are working on the date of the transfer under section 80k must be offered jobs by the Smithsonian on its usual terms, and they may also be appointed without following those title 5 rules.
