§80r–2 Establishment of Museum

Summary

Creates the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian Institution. The museum must collect and study items, run programs, and put on permanent and temporary exhibits about African American life, art, history, and culture — including slavery, Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, the civil rights movement, and other parts of the African American diaspora. It must gather artifacts and documents and work with other museums, HBCUs, historical societies, schools, and groups to build programs, care for collections, and train museum staff.
