Title 20 › Chapter 25— PAY AND PERSONNEL PROGRAM FOR OVERSEAS TEACHERS › § 905
The President must set rules so that every teacher who is not a substitute gets housing, a housing allowance, and storage help in addition to pay. For each school year a teacher works, they get housing or a housing allowance equal to what section 5912 of title 5 allows. If a teacher is working at the end of a school year and signs in writing to return next year, they can get during the break before the next year either housing or that same housing allowance, or instead storage and moving help for their household goods (packing, local hauling, unpacking, and transport to and from storage). If the teacher does not show up at the start of the next school year, they must repay any allowance or the value of any housing or storage they received, unless they have a reason beyond their control that the Department of Defense accepts. These benefits replace any similar housing or storage they might get from another job during the break between school years. A teacher assigned to Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba, who has no dependents with them must be offered for lease any suitable military family housing that is not needed for service members or other civilian staff with dependents. If such housing is leased to that teacher, they still get the housing allowance amount determined under subsection (b), even if other government housing is available without charge.
