Gives plain meanings for key words used in this chapter. Dependent is a minor who has not finished high school and who is a sponsor’s child, stepchild, adopted child, ward, spouse, or someone living in the sponsor’s home whom the sponsor acts as a parent for and who gets half or more of their support from the sponsor. Sponsor is an active‑duty service member or a full‑time DoD civilian (U.S. citizen or national) who may move dependents overseas at Government expense and receives a housing allowance there. Overseas area means any place outside the United States. United States (geographic) means the several States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and U.S. possessions, excluding the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and Midway Island. Involuntarily separated has the meaning in section 1141 of title 10. Director is the Director of the Department of Defense Education Activity.
