Title 20 › CHAPTER 26 — SUPPORT AND SCHOLARSHIP IN HUMANITIES AND ARTS; MUSEUM SERVICES › SUBCHAPTER I — NATIONAL FOUNDATION ON THE ARTS AND THE HUMANITIES › § 954a
The Chairperson of the National Endowment for the Arts can award grants and make contracts to states, public agencies, artists, nonprofits, schools, museums, and others. The goal is to make the arts easier to access for all Americans, including people from different cultures and from cities and rural areas, by supporting arts education in schools, colleges, and nonformal programs for all ages, and by encouraging research and work that improves arts teaching. Money may be used for a range of activities, including promoting arts learning for youth and lifelong learners; improving teacher training, faculty skills, and curriculum; better evaluating arts programs; building partnerships with the Department of Education, state and local agencies, arts groups, businesses, and colleges; supporting apprenticeships, internships, work-study, and artist residencies; upgrading technology and facilities; and running demonstration projects and sharing their results. The Chairperson must appoint an advisory council on arts education to give advice.
