Title 20 › Chapter 26— SUPPORT AND SCHOLARSHIP IN HUMANITIES AND ARTS; MUSEUM SERVICES › Subchapter I— NATIONAL FOUNDATION ON THE ARTS AND THE HUMANITIES › § 955b
Creates a National Medal of Arts. The President, after recommendations from the National Council on the Arts, picks the medal’s design and may award it to people or groups for outstanding contributions to the arts in the United States. No more than twelve medals may be awarded in any calendar year. Individuals must be U.S. citizens or nationals, or lawful permanent residents who have filed for naturalization under section 1445 of title 8 and are not permanently ineligible. Groups must be organized or incorporated in the United States. The President presents the medals at a ceremony, and funds made available to the National Endowment for the Arts must be used to carry out the program.
