Title 22 › Chapter 21— SETTLEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL CLAIMS › Subchapter VI— CLAIMS AGAINST GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC › § 1644h
The Commission must tell the Treasury Secretary the dollar amount of each award. The Treasury Secretary must pay awards from the Claims Fund in a set order. First, pay awards of $1,000 or less in full. Next, pay $1,000 toward each award that is larger than $1,000. Then, any remaining money is shared among the unpaid parts of all awards in proportion to each award’s unpaid balance. After all principals are paid, any allowed interest is paid pro rata. The Treasury may make rules about how payments are made.
