Payment for helping someone with a claim filed with the Commission under this subchapter cannot be more than 10 percent of the total award paid for that claim. Any agreement that says otherwise is illegal and has no effect. Anyone in the United States or elsewhere who demands or takes more than 10 percent commits a misdemeanor and can be fined up to $5,000, imprisoned up to 12 months, or both.
