Title 22 › Chapter 25— PROTECTION OF VESSELS ON THE HIGH SEAS AND IN TERRITORIAL WATERS OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES › § 1979
Creates the Fishermen’s Protective Fund for the Secretary of State to reimburse vessel owners for amounts he certifies under section 1973. Money recovered from foreign countries under section 1975(a) must be put into the fund and used to pay those owners. If a claim was transferred into the fund under section 1975(b)(1), an equal amount collected must instead be sent to the Treasury as miscellaneous receipts. Congress may appropriate $3,000,000 to start the fund and may provide more money as needed.
