Title 22 › Chapter 34— THE PEACE CORPS › § 2504a
Make sure every overseas Peace Corps post has a medical office the size and type it needs. If necessary, medical staff from other U.S. agencies can be sent to help. The Peace Corps Director must hire good medical officers and support staff by checking seven things: medical training and credentials, work record, administrative ability, local language and culture knowledge, ability to work in English, people skills, and other suitable factors. Medical officers in malaria-endemic countries must be trained to recognize side effects of malaria drugs. The Director, through the Associate Director of the Office of Health Services and country directors, must review all medical staff performance to ensure they follow Peace Corps rules and complete required continuing medical education and licensing. The Director must confirm those reviews in the annual Peace Corps congressional budget justification and must consult CDC experts about malaria prevention medicines.
