Defines key words used in the chapter. "Abroad" means anywhere outside the United States. "Function" covers duties, powers, rights, responsibilities, activities, or programs. "Health care" includes exams, preventive, curative, restorative medical care, and extra services when needed. "Medical officer" means a doctor, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or registered nurse who has the qualifications the Peace Corps and the post require, as set by the Peace Corps Director. In sections 2504(b), 2504(m), and 2505(2), "transportation" includes moving up to three hundred pounds per person of unaccompanied necessary personal and household effects. "United States" means the several States and the District of Columbia. "United States Government agency" covers departments, boards, government-owned or partly owned corporations, instrumentalities, commissions, or similar federal bodies. For counting service time, volunteer service includes training under section 2507(a) before enrollment (except for section 2504(f) purposes) and the time from enrollment until service ends by the President, death, or resignation.
